पैठणी

Paithani is Maharashtra's most celebrated GI-tagged silk saree, woven in the ancient city of Paithan (formerly Pratishthan) on the banks of the Godavari river. Paithani sarees are distinguished by their tapestry-woven oblique interlocking technique (similar to kani weaving), which creates rich geometric borders and the iconic peacock, lotus, and vine motifs in the pallu. The body is woven in pure silk and the motifs use real Zari thread, producing a saree of extraordinary lustre and solidity. Worn by Maharashtrian brides and at festivals like Gudi Padwa and Diwali.

नऊवारी

Nauvari is the traditional nine-yard saree of Maharashtra, draped in the distinctive Kashtha style where the fabric is brought between the legs and tucked at the back, creating a trouser-like silhouette traditionally associated with Marathi women and Maharashtrian cultural identity. The word Nauvari derives from 'nau' (nine) and 'var' (yard). Nauvari sarees are typically woven in cotton or silk and may be plain, striped, or embellished with a traditional border. The garment is worn by women of all communities at Gudi Padwa, weddings, and cultural events celebrating Maharashtrian heritage.

कोल्हापुरी चप्पल

Kolhapuri Chappals are GI-tagged handcrafted leather footwear from the Kolhapur region of Maharashtra, distinguished by their flat or low heel, open-toe T-strap design, and intricate hand-tooled or punched geometric patterns on the leather upper. Made from vegetable-tanned buffalo or cow leather by the Chamar and Chambhar communities, Kolhapuri chappals have been worn for over 700 years and became globally recognised as a symbol of Indian artisanal craftsmanship in the 1960s when they were adopted by international fashion. The tanning and tooling processes are entirely traditional.
